Joi Barua is an Assamese singer, musician who has a band and has been associated with Hindi films like Udaan and Dev D. He performed with Shruti Haasan for a song titled Prithibhi Ghure wherein he sang in Assamese while Shruti did her bit in Tamil.
Incidentally the lyrics for the Tamil segment of the song were written by none other than her father Padmabhushan Kamal Haasan. While Joi Barua sang the Assamese part, the Tamil segment was sung by Shruthi. Although the recording had happened in 2012 for INKTalks 2012, the video of the song was uploaded recently and is gaining popularity.
It is well known that Shruti is a trained musician and is associated with a musical rock band called ‘Extramentals’ and does not lose any opportunity to sing when it comes her way.
On this collaboration Shruti says, “I am very happy to be a part of such ventures which reiterates ‘unity in diversity’ of our nation. And I am doubly delighted due to dad’s lyrics which have given that extra fillip to the song”.
The Tamil part begins ‘Therke Oru Dhuruvam, Vadakkil Oru Dhuruvam”.
