Lots of talks were held after the National Awards and the State Awards were announced this year. The Malayalam industry indeed had a proud moment after the National Awards were announced.
Suraj Venjaramoodu won the Best Actor Award at the National level for his movie Perariyathavar. He won the Best Comedian at the State Awards. This irked many people around which later on ignited many talks. Now, reports claim that the State Govt has submitted a proposal to remove the Best Comedian category from the award lists!
According to sources, the State Government has made a recommendation regarding the removal of the best comedian award from the State Awards' list before an expert committee, headed by Adoor Gopalakrishnan. The committee, which has been constituted to revise the norms of film awards, will now decide whether to sustain the category or not!
Answering this query, producer Suresh Kumar said, "When you take other prestigious awards, nowhere you will find an award for the best comedian. That said, the outlook of each jury is different. However, we want to bring an overall discipline to the matters pertaining to the State Awards, but no decision has been taken so far."
Suraj Venjaramoodu, who won the Best Comedian at the State Film Awards this year, said that he does not find it a wise idea of removing the category from the awards list as awards are always inspiring to the actors and it makes them perform well. If the committee removes the award from the list, then Suraj will become the last actor to receive the same. But, Salim Kumar, who also won the same awards alike Suraj, is all happy for the proposal and says that all are actors and not just comedians!
