  • Half Yearly Report Of Tamil Movies In 2014

The second quarter in the current year has come to an end on June 30. It is now the time to analyse the half yearly report of Kollywood in 2014.

Audience have witnessed a record number of film releases in the first six months but only countable movies have impressed them.

    First Quarter Report

Vijay's Jilla and Ajith Kumar's Veeram released in the month of January with mammoth expectations. The releases of the two big stars films for Sankranthi brought a festive atmosphere in the industry as fans thronged into theatres in huge numbers. It was followed by sleeper-hit Golisoda, which emerged as a big winner as it was not made with a star cast. In the month, 18 movies were released.

February was a bad month for the industry. Most films failed to pull audience to theatres. Only Thegidi won the audience heart. Expected movies like Aaha Kalyanam and Bramman did not live up to audience expectations. And in March a few small-movies did well at Box Office. Much-awaited Jayam Ravi's Nimirndhu Nil disappeared from screens without a trace.

All in all, 54 movies were released in the first half and only four movies recovered production cost.
