  • Here's wishing the National Award Winner, director Ram

The 61st National Awards were announced on 16th April. Thanga Meengal led Kollywood’s race, and has won three awards:

Best Child Artist - Sadhana (Thanga Meengal)

Best Tamil Film - Thanga Meengal

Best Lyrics - Na. Muthukumar For Ananda Yaazhai (Thanga Meengal)

In a conversation with the correspondent of Behindwoods, director Ram shared his happiness on the honour his movie has received. He said, “I dedicate this award to my director Balu Mahendra.” He added that he had expected Thanga Meengal to win awards.

He also shared his disappointment that Fandry, Marathi movie, did not win the Overall Best Award. However, Fandry was given the Best Debut Film of Director.

It is to be noted that theatres did not allocate enough shows for Thanga Meengal’s release. When asked whether the awards provided the relief which theatres did not provide, he said, “No. We should not compare business and awards – both are entirely different.”

Congratulations to Ram, Sadhana, Na Muthukumar and all the winners!
